Thought I would share this late winter sunset Owen spied for us a week ago.

Calm winter days
It has been a nice winter, only a few significant weather events. It has been great to have cows out this late on stalks and they are grazing every day with the small amount of snow. Spring is not far off and many of the ladies are developing nice round bellies for the occasion.
We took Puff Puff to market, he was 7-8 years old and he will carry on in the herd as we have kept back a few heifers. As a last gesture he topped the bull/cow sale and weighted in at 1850 lbs and that is no bologna.... Or maybe it is, and a lot of it!
Saturday outing..
Since the wife was taking a much deserved weekend away the kids and I visited the Food and Farm Expo at the NICC Dairy Tech Center. It was a nice event with a focus on the local food movement and we learned some new things. More importantly we met some people who could give us guidance in the future. We then went over to see if they were milking and lucky for us they were. Our 5 yr old thinks all cows should be holsteins, he loves milk, maybe a future dairy man. He also thinks all tractors should be green, not sure where he gets these ideas living at our place?

Good fishin
We spent some time fishing at the best fishin hole around. Uncle Daryl and aunt Connie hosted us along with 3 dogs and a cat all pictured. Harrison caught 5, Lana 2, Owen 1 the others zero. But that is okay I tell the kids all the time uncle Daryl has caught more fish and taken more deer than anybody I know. It was beautiful out and we loved catching a few, trust me at this pond it is called catchin, not fishin. Note how uncle Daryl hides when holding fish for the kids, wants to make sure the kids get the glory!
