Gate keeper

Had a bit of ice today but it warmed up enough to get the silo open again. Only had to climb 8 times. Thank goodness I had a good gate keeper join me after a bit of frustration to keep the ladies at bay. The cows go for the silage like addicts. The gatekeeper would get bored sometimes and whack ice off the building and finally he asked to have a go at the fork. Kinda fun running the skid loader on a solid sheet of ice. Mixed up 3.5 ton for the feeder cattle which is Max capacity for our wagon. If I said how long it took the big feeders would laugh. Feed looks great though and the critters like the silage from the silo much more than from the bag. I think it is less dense and perhaps has a bit less moisture.

Don't tell the chief!

This machine came along and ripped his favorite storage compartment (an old freezer) from our farm office and took it to the junk yard. Not sure how to break the news to him...

Collective bargaining agreement

This employee informed me this morning it was 6 F when she came out to do chores. She maybe smiling but I was informed that her supervisor said there is no Ovaltine left so hot chocolate was not a possibility after chores. There has been murmuring of a strike but we think we can solve it with a nice collective bargaining session.  Next thing you know they will demand marshmallows be provided. I have no reservation about bringing a pan of scotcheroos or possibly cupcakes  to the bargaining session and using it as short term leverage! Can't let this labor movement push around management!

January thawed

This January thaw allowed us to hauls some manure from the cows that calved this fall....
